Director of Travel Study
Talk to your Academic Advisor to find out how travel study fits your specific graduation plan. Generally, travel study fits by providing credits in General Education or Major Field courses.
General Education Courses
As a student at Piedmont, you are required to take 46-51 credit hours of General Education courses. Travel study can help you complete these credit hours in several ways:
- Faculty-led courses sometimes include courses that count towards the GenEd requirement. These courses will be marked in the description of the faculty-led course.
- Most of our semester abroad programs offer courses that can be used to complete a GenEd requirement (such as foreign language courses, literature courses, math courses, or fine arts courses).
- All programs that offer academic credit can be apply towards the 18 credit hours of General Education Electives.
Major Field Courses
Within your chosen field of study, you are typically required to take roughly 72 credit hours. Most majors have required courses and elective courses. Travel study can help you complete these credit hours in several ways:
- Faculty-led courses sometimes include courses that are specialized to a specific major, either as a required or elective course.
- Our semester abroad programs offer courses that can fill major electives and sometimes major required courses. In fact, the semester abroad programs are great opportunities to take courses that you may not have the opportunity to take at Piedmont (like Tropical Birds or Ecotourism in Costa Rica).
