Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications
The study of mass communications at the undergraduate level focuses on all aspects of media and communication. Every organization requires individuals who understand how to best reach intended audiences. A degree in mass communications from Piedmont University will prepare students for these jobs.
Students in the program develop broad-based media skills through classes and hands-on experience in print, video, audio, digital, social media, and other emerging media channels. While similar programs at other institutions require students to specialize in specific areas of communication, mass communications majors at Piedmont are required to master multiple media platforms and develop into leaders who are ethically and technologically adept storytellers. Furthermore, students are required to conduct mass communications research, which prepares them for opportunities and coursework at the graduate level.
Our majors work in various areas of student media, which serves as excellent preparation for their professional careers. Leadership opportunities at Piedmont include:
- Society of Collegiate Journalists
- Student Leadership Council
- The Roar student news organization
- The Yonahian yearbook
- WPCZ-LPFM “Z-98.7”, student radio station
- Roar student video productions
- Roar Podcasting Network
- Speech and Debate Club
- Rotaract Club
This course of study incorporates client-based projects and internships that prepare students for a spectrum of career opportunities, including advertising, broadcasting, public relations, journalism, videography, and digital media design and management. Recent graduates are working in communications roles at Fortune 500 companies, including Chick-fil-A, Delta, and Warner Media.
