Alumni Memorial Scholarship
Established as a general fund for donations in honor of alumni. The number of awards and amount of this scholarship vary from year to year.

Established in honor of Mr. Anderson by Gus Arrendale.
James and Marilyn Armstrong Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of James and Marilyn Armstrong and in remembrance of James’ 100th birthday.
Thomas A. (Gus) Arrendale III Scholarship
Established by friends to honor the leadership and dedication of Gus Arrendale to Piedmont University, Habersham County, and future leaders of the state, as exemplified by his participation on, and leadership of the Board of Trustees of the University.
Seaborn Ashley & Dana Smith Ashley Endowed Scholarship
Established with a gift from Caroline Ashley in loving memory of her parents. The recipient will be chosen with consideration first to students who are pursuing a career in primary or elementary education.

Established by Dr. Barbara Brown Taylor in honor of her parents. Recipients of this scholarship will major in psychology, nursing, or philosophy/religion.
Jim Ed Brown Scholarship
Established by Gus Arrendale in memory of Jim Ed Brown, an American country music singer. Mr. Brown was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in June 2015. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in vocal performance or participating in a choral ensemble.
Marilyn Brown Nursing Scholarship
Established and funded annually by Mrs. Marilyn Brown of Athens, Georgia, this scholarship is awarded to nursing students.
Louise Ellison Callam Scholarship
Established to honor Louise Ellison Callam by her family and designed to aid students seeking a degree in Education.
Camp-Younts Annual Scholarship
Established and supported by the Camp-Younts Foundation.
Jimmy Capps Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Mr. Capps by Gus Arrendale.
Thomas Winford Carlan Scholarship
Established by the estate of Celeste Carlan Farmer, Class of 1968, in memory of her father. Awards will be made to students with at least one parent employed in law enforcement.
Dr. Albert W. Carter Jr. Scholarship in Nursing
Established through a generous gift from Mrs. Marion Murray Carter.
Coach O’Neal Cave Scholarship
Established in honor of Coach O’Neal Cave, former Piedmont athletic director and coach of baseball, basketball, and golf, to help defray expenses for students who demonstrate leadership.

Louise Kidder Davis Endowed Grant Fund
Established by John V. Davis upon his retirement from Piedmont in honor of his mother, Louise Kidder Davis.
Billy Dilworth Scholarship
Established by Gus Arrendale in memory of Billy Dilworth. Mr. Dilworth made a name for himself in media, working for years in newspapers, radio and television. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in Mass Communication, with a preference for students interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting or journalism.
Glenn W. & Edna R. Ellard Scholarship
Established to honor Glenn A. (Jack) Ellard for his service as Clerk of the Georgia House of Representatives for 33 years by his many friends and colleagues, and later greatly enhanced by his wife, Edna R. Ellard. Mr. Ellard was a Piedmont alumnus.
Annie B. Ensminger Memorial Scholarship
Established by periodic donations from the income of the Annie B. Ensminger Memorial Scholarship fund that is overseen by the Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ.

The W. L. and Gladys S. Hallford Scholarship is established by family and friends in memory of William Lewis “Pat” Hallford and Gladys Southerland Hallford.
Harold S. Hannum Scholarship
Established in memory of Harold Hannum by his wife Anna Hannum to assist students studying for careers either in music or nursing.

Established in memory of two longtime friends of the University and Congregationalists by their estate.
J. Edward Harp Scholarship Fund
Established in his honor by friends and family in 1986. Mr. Harp was a trustee of the University and an active Congregationalist.

Established and funded by Hayes Chevrolet of Baldwin.
Heathman Forty & Eight Annual Nursing Scholarship
Established at the North Georgia Community Foundation by the local Forty and Eight chapter in keeping with the organization’s national mission of providing financial assistance to the training of nurses.
Flay & Patricia McBrayer Heaton Scholarship
Established to honor two graduates of Piedmont University, Patricia McBrayer Heaton and Flay Heaton, also a trustee of the University for many years. The recipient should be pursuing a degree in education or business.
C.W. & Flora B. Henderson Scholarship
Established to honor Dr. Charles W. Henderson, a Georgia Baptist pastor and school administrator, and his wife, Flora Elsworth Bowden Henderson, a musician and co-worker with him in Christian service.
Lee Heuson Scholarship
Established by Dr. William G. Heuson in honor of his son, Lee Heuson.

Established by Earl and Nelle Higdon, who were business leaders in Hendersonville, N.C., and both graduates of Piedmont.
Wallace Hinson Endowed Concert Choir Scholarship
The Wallace Hinson Concert Choir Scholarship was established by Louise Bass to honor Dr. C. Wallace “Wally” Hinson, Piedmont’s Associate Dean of Fine Arts and Director of the Conservatory of Music. The scholarship is awarded to student(s) majoring in music with an emphasis on choral and vocal students.

Established in their honor by their daughter, L. Gladys Holcomb, a Piedmont graduate.
L. Gladys Holcomb Scholarship
Established in 1992 by Gladys Holcomb to assist students at Piedmont University.
Marion T. Hunt Music Scholarship
The Marion T. Hunt Music Scholarship was established by the estate of Marion T. Hunt. Scholarship awards will be awarded to students majoring in music with first preference for a student pursuing an area of study in keyboard (piano or organ).
Thomas Telford “Tommy” Irvin Endowed Scholarship
Established by Gus Arrendale in memory of Tommy Irvin, who served as Georgia’s Commissioner of Agriculture from 1969 to 2011. Mr. Irvin was a Trustee of Piedmont University from 2001 – 2015.
William “Bill” C. Jackson Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Jackson family to honor Bill’s memory.
Imogene T. Johnson Graduate Education Scholarship
Established by Imogene T. Johnson to place emphasis on excellence in graduate education through the encouragement of study and research of reading or the pursuit of national board certification within the College of Education.

Established in honor of Dean Emerita Dr. Mary C. Lane and her mother. The award will be made to a student who is studying education on a graduate level.
Kelly Lang Endowed Scholarship
Established by Gus Arrendale in honor of Kelly Lang, an accomplished singer and songwriter. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in vocal performance or participating in a choral ensemble.
Laschicotte-Strickland Annual Music Scholarship
Established by the Alliance for African-American Music, this scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in music.
Atos D. “Joe” Lattanzi & Peggy Joyce Oliver Lattanzi Endowed Scholarship
Established to honor the lives of alumni Atos D. Lattanzi ('51) and Peggy Joyce Oliver Lattanzi ('52), and to carry on their work of aiding and assisting young people in their desire to attend college. Joe and Peggy were dedicated members of the Alumni Association and were both honored with the Alumni Service Award.

Established by Louise Aiken Lowe to honor her husband, Arthur D. Lowe, and to recognize the extreme generosity and compassion shown by Mr. Ray H. Black, treasurer at the time the donor attended Piedmont.

Established in memory of Dr. McPherson, who was a beloved educator in the Washington, D.C., area and an active Congregationalist. The recipient will be a student majoring in English.

Established by Dr. Mason, a 1957 graduate, in memory of fellow classmates T. Alan Wans ley and J. David Lecroy, and in honor of Nancy L. Singer, a long time-employee of the University.

Established by H. Milton and Carolyn Stewart and their extended family.
James F. Mellichamp Endowed Music Scholarship
Established by friends to honor the dedication and accomplishments of Dr. James F. Mellichamp as chair of the Music Department at Piedmont University.
Stuart P. Mellichamp Endowed Science Scholarship
Established by James F. Mellichamp and his family in memory of his brother, Stuart who was a lifetime educator in the sciences.
Dr. Thomas B. Musser & Dorothy B. Musser Scholarship
Established by the estate of Dr. Thomas B. Musser of Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, who was a longtime friend of the University.
Nickerson Congregational Heritage Scholarship
Established in 1994, the Nickerson Congregational Heritage Scholarship Fund was created by a gift from the estate of Lucille Nickerson. In 2000, the scholarship received additional funding from the estate of William Nickerson.
Dr. Pearl Nix Scholarship
Established in honor of Dr. Nix, a graduate of Piedmont and retired professor of library science at North Georgia College. Recipients must be pursuing a career in education.

Established by Charles and Lillian Parkhurst for the benefit of those undergraduates who would derive the greatest benefit from a college education.

Established to honor Walter G. Paskowsky and his wife, Jerush Montez Paskowsky, a Piedmont graduate.

Established in memory of C. Lisle Percy, who taught sociology, religion and history, and his wife, Mabel Percy, who taught foreign languages.

Established by Phillip J. Prescott of San Jose, Calif., an engineer, Congregationalist, and friend of the University.
Deane Mathis Puckett Scholarship
Established by the estate of Ms. Deane Mathis Puckett to assist young people in their desire to attain a college degree.
Dr. Claude & Mrs. Merle Purcell Scholarship
Established to honor Dr. Purcell, a graduate and trustee of the University, and his wife Merle. The Purcells were educators in Georgia for their entire careers. Dr. Purcell served as State Superintendent of Schools in Georgia.
Thurmon Wiley Purcell Endowed Scholarship
Established to honor Mr. Purcell, a lifetime educator, by his wife, Clementine L. Purcell.

Established by the estate of Jesse and Minnie Randall. The amount of the award and number of recipients vary from year to year.

Established in honor of Dr. Roberts, a 1908 graduate and professor of chemistry at Piedmont for 36 years.
Jonathan C. Rogers Endowed Scholarship
Established in honor of Dr. Rogers, a 1906 graduate, professor of math, former dean of Piedmont University, and former president of North Georgia College and State University.
Mary Barrett Roper Scholarship
Established by the Mary Barrett Roper Trust.
Alice J. Russell Scholarship
Established by the estate of Alice J. Russell, a friend of the University.
Howard Sanders Optimist Scholarship
Established by the Optimist Club of Athens, Georgia, Inc., to honor the memory of Howard A. Sanders, respected Athens businessman and loyal Optimist, to aid deserving students in their effort to obtain a college degree.
Elizabeth Sawyer Scholarship
Established by Dr. Billy Mason, a graduate of Piedmont, in honor of Dr. Sawyer, a professor of biology in the 1950s.
Jeannie Seely Endowed Scholarship
Established by Gus Arrendale to honor Jeannie Seely, a country music singer, songwriter, and record producer. She was nicknamed “Miss Country Soul” by music professionals.
Jean Shepard Endowed Scholarship
Established by Gus Arrendale in memory of Jean Shepard, an American honky-tonk singer-songwriter who pioneered for women in country music. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in vocal performance or participating in a choral ensemble.
TG Sheppard Endowed Scholarship
Established by Gus Arrendale in honor of T.G. Sheppard, an American country music singer-songwriter. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in vocal performance or participating in a choral ensemble.

Established by James Sievers ’63 and his wife, Samira Beckwith.
W. Ben & Nelle F. Singleton Scholarship
Established by Ben, who served as a trustee, and Nelle, who is a 1929 graduate.
Dock C. Sisk Excellence in Education Scholarship
Established by Gus Arrendale, III in honor of Dock C. Sisk.
Lillian E. Smith Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship encourages students to fully explore the values and convictions that shaped the life and work of this great humanitarian. Students in the program will be expected to complete a minor in Social Justice, and they must pass the Lillian E. Smith Studies course.
Dr. W. Baxter & Fannie H. Smith Scholarship
Established in memory of Dr. Baxter and Fannie H. Smith. He taught math and physics and served as registrar, dean and trustee. She taught in the departments of chemistry and business.
Henkel Smith Scholarship
Established by Virginia Smith Williams, a graduate of Piedmont, in memory of her brother, Henkel Smith, who was also a graduate, member of the faculty, and trustee.
Eloise C. Spaeth Endowed Nursing Scholarship
Established by Susan Spaeth Kyle, a 1995 graduate, in memory of her mother.
W.O. Spaeth Science Scholarship
Established by Susan Spaeth Kyle, a 1995 graduate, to honor the life and work of W. O. Spaeth. This scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in one of the sciences.
Grady and Ann Starnes Annual Scholarship
Scholarship established and funded by Piedmont graduate Ann Starnes in memory of her husband, fellow graduate, Henry Grady Starnes.
Homer W. Stevens Scholarship
Established to honor Dr. Stevens, a beloved teacher and friend, who served as head of the social science department for 21 years and as dean of the University in 1952.
Ralph L. & Helen Schuenemann Strucher Scholarship
Established to honor Mr. Strucher, former trustee, and his wife Helen.
Horace W. Sturgis Scholarship
Established in honor of Dr. Sturgis, an alumnus of Piedmont University and noted educator who was the founding president of Kennesaw State University.

Ernest D. Wright Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1984 in honor of Ernest D. Wright, who served as a trustee. He was a business, civic, and church leader in Toccoa, Georgia.
W. Nelson Payne Endowed Scholarship
Established by an appreciative parent as an ongoing way of honoring Mr. Payne for his unselfish devotion and service to the youth of Habersham County through his work with the band program of the county.
