Halle Foundation Grant allows Piedmont students to visit international businesses – without leaving Georgia
Not many academic programs come into existence and begin taking students on trips within just a few months. But with a Halle Foundation Grant and the efforts of Professor Brian McDermott, the German language program at Piedmont University is doing just that.
Last week, Professor McDermott traveled with 12 of his German 1101 students to attend the Atlanta International Career Fair to learn about internship and job opportunities. Students had the opportunity to network and share their resumes with representatives from multiple corporations based in German-speaking countries. After getting a “taste” of the professional world, the group went to a German restaurant to get a real taste of the cuisine and culture.
Thanks to the Halle Foundation Grant, the entire trip was covered. “Real-world experiences like this, combined with external support, provide invaluable opportunities for our students’ growth both academically and professionally,” said Professor McDermott. From the German program and beyond, Piedmont students regularly get to take part in events like these in the course of their practical yet immersive education.
