Piedmont University Unveils New Brand Identity and University Logo
Piedmont University has launched a new brand identity and university logo to better shape and convey our story to our students and community.
Piedmont’s refreshed brand identity and new logo is student-driven and student-designed. It unifies a comprehensive brand strategy with recruitment, communications materials, and messaging and a new institutional logo that embodies our connections with students, professors, employers, and the community.
The Process
Our new brand identity paints a picture that captures the essence of this university. It was developed by five senior graphic design students – Sam Brooks, Elizabeth Carter, Nico Eberhart, Clemente Mesian, and Jesselle Witter – under the guidance of Prof. Santanu Majumdar. The students conducted research of other institutional branding, spoke to students and community members about their experience at Piedmont, and highlighted elements that impact them the most. The research was conducted to analyze and study other university branding to ensure the new Piedmont brand would stand out.
Through this process, we learned what people truly value in our mission. We learned why our students came here, why they stay, and what they believe makes us special.
Takeaways:
- The Piedmont experience is one of connection and community idealized by personalized one-on-one attention by a team of caring and experienced professors and student support staff.
- We are exclusive through individualized learning yet inclusive for students of different backgrounds looking to find their home.
- Piedmont strives to empower students, particularly a significant number of first-generation college students and underserved populations, to find themselves and reach their potential.
- Because we are small, our professors and staff use their incredible experience and connections to invest in our students and provide them opportunities they might not have elsewhere.
Our New Logo
Our new logo celebrates our commitment to connections on campus and in the community.
- The bridge: It is an iconic feature of the university and the most visible landmark on campus. Crossing the bridge is the first thing prospective students do on campus, symbolizing the opportunities and possibilities ahead and leaving the past behind. It is also the first thing the community and visitors see. Including the established date builds assurance of legacy and achievements by reminding an individual of how long the university has been around. The bridge symbolizes Piedmont University's connections with its students and life after college and connections with professors, potential employers, and the community.
- The mountains: The mountains are essential elements as they represent our geographical area and play a significant role in the community’s identity.
- The dynamic circle: The circle represents the bond and dynamic nature of the Piedmont community. The dynamic circle helped bring the logo together in a cohesive, yet free-flowing, manner.
In alignment with our goals of attracting new students, initiatives to advance student success, a commitment to empowering students, and the development of new programs and partnerships, we feel reinvigorated and inspired.
Piedmont University is dedicated to bridging the gap between student potential and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
