Piedmont University Offering Four Free Concerts in February
Piedmont University’s February fine arts events include performances by a Northeast Georgia-based choir, celebrated flute-piano and trumpet-organ duos, and a Piedmont faculty member.
“February can be cold and dreary. Come stay warm and enjoy the shining talents we are showcasing at Piedmont University this month,” said Dr. Wallace Hinson, associate dean of the School of Fine Arts & Communications.
All events are free, open to the public, and will take place at the Chapel on the Demorest campus, 992 Central Ave.
February’s event calendar includes:
- Lux Treble Choir, Feb. 4, 7:30 p.m. From the Latin for “light,” Lux is an advanced treble choir created to bring beautiful treble music — and light — into this difficult and sometimes dark world. Their repertoire includes the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” and “One More Light” by Linkin Park. Piedmont alumna Emily Allison and Ashley Conway conduct the choir. - Bloom-Funkhouser Duo, Feb. 9, 7:30 p.m. Peter Bloom, flute, and John Funkhouser, piano, are both veterans of the legendary Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, considered one of the best jazz ensembles in the world. They will present a performance celebrating the music of the incomparable Duke Ellington.
- Piedmont University Music Professor and soprano Dr. Andrea Price with Dr. Heejin Park, Feb. 23, 7:30 p.m. Price will perform lieder, art song, and operatic arias. Price has previously performed recitals in Italy, Greece, and New Zealand. She has also been a featured soloist in the South Carolina Philharmonic and Monroe Symphony Orchestra of Louisiana. She was the winner of the 2010 Georgia National Association of Teachers of Singing Artists Awards competition.
- Seipp-Sheets Duo, Feb. 28, 7:30 p.m. Trumpeter Chuck Seipp and organist Randall Sheets will perform musical arrangements of virtuosic, beautiful, entertaining, humorous, and patriotic selections. Coupled with visually compelling videos, the duo crafts a unique and engaging concert experience for all ages.
