Museum to feature landscape paintings in summer show
Michael Ross: Foothills will be on display May 12 through August 19 at the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum Art (MSMA). Ross’ exhibition will be a part of the North Georgia Arts Tour on June 11, 12, and 13. The museum will host a closing reception on August 19.
Ross resides in Athens, Georgia, and grew up in Norway, Finland, and the Washington, D.C. area. After spending time in San Francisco, Ross earned an MFA from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia.
Ross’ lush paintings depicts forests, fields, wetlands, birds, and people. His work is part of public and private collections in the United States and Europe, including the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens, the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, and the District Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. He has participated in artist residencies in Maine, Vermont, Norway, Iceland, and Benin. When he’s not painting, Ross loves running on trails in the mountains of North Georgia.
The MSMA is located at 567 Georgia Street in Demorest. Admission to the museum is free. It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
