Bring Stories to Life.
The study of film production at the undergraduate level gives students a foundation in film history, current industry trends, and media production. As the home base for productions from Netflix, Amazon, Marvel, Disney and Turner, the state of Georgia is the “Hollywood of the South.” The film industry ranks second only to agriculture as the top private employer in the state.
Students in the Film Production program gain experience in all aspects of film and media production by working on individual projects and faculty-supervised, department-sponsored productions. Film Production majors are prepared for careers as writers, producers, directors, cinematographers, technicians, editors, and other behind-the-scenes work including, grip and rigging, lighting, and pre-/post-production.
Piedmont Helps Launch Your Career in Film Production
Film Production helps students develop an understanding of the production process while exploring narrative, entertainment, and documentary forms. Utilizing state-of-the-art equipment, students gain hands-on experience as writers, producers, directors, cinematographers, and editors. Piedmont's Film Production program emphasizes personal expression and collaboration, along with the technical and creative skills needed to succeed in a career in the film industry.
Faculty members in the Film Production major are working professionals who emphasize critical thinking and the development of ideas while equipping students with practical production skills. Graduates leave Piedmont prepared for a dynamic work environment in a highly competitive industry.
What classes will I take?
Through the coursework, connections with industry mentors, and a required film production internship, students are prepared for a spectrum of career opportunities in film production, including working for Atlanta-based film industry titans like Warner Media and Netflix, independent film producers, and corporations and non-profit entities seeking production talent.
